(22 Oct 2018) French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian asked that Saudi Arabia provide a complete account of journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death and hinted at possible punitive measures.
Speaking on Monday during a joint news conference with his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui, Le Drian said "I am reiterating on the gravity of the situation."
Le Drian said France is waiting for the results of the investigations into the journalist's death before taking "necessary measures."
Le Drian did not elaborate on the measures France could implement.
Jhinaoui condemned the murder but praised Saudi Arabia for its decision to open a investigation and insisted the issue "cannot be exploited to target Saudi Arabia and its security."
Le Drian said France is asking for "the utmost clarity about what has happened, which is not the case today."
