Marianne Dammert, RN
Celebrating 35 years

“Hi, I’m Marianne Dammert. I’ve been a nurse at Children’s for 35 years.

I became a nurse, actually much to the encouragement of my parents. My brother had Down Syndrome back in the day where they didn’t do heart surgeries. His heart was affected by Down Syndrome, and so my parents were told he probably wouldn’t live past infancy.

And actually, back in that day, they were told to put him in an institution. And thankfully, I was very blessed that my parents made the decision to keep him at home. And thanks to their good care and the care of the doctors and the nurses here at Children’s, he lived until he was 26, which back in that day, that was really remarkable.

Recently both of my parents died, and when I was going through some of their things, I found cards that they had saved when my brother died. And one of the cards was signed by one of our nurse practitioners, Nancy Morwessel. I work with her now in Diabetes and Endocrinology, so it’s just amazing how things kind of come full circle.”
