Janusz Popławski & Ork. Odeon – Twe usta kłamia (mi co noc) [Your Lips Are Lying / To Me Every Night] Tango z teatru „Rex” (from the music-hall „Rex”) Muz. Szymon Kataszek, Słowa: Andrzej Włast, Odeon (Polish) 1933 (Re-pressed in 1945)

NOTE: This tango was presented on the huge stage of theatre “Rex” - the first Polish music-hall, which was opened in Warsaw in Janauary 1933 by Andrzej Włast, the popular song text writer and director of the bankrupting revue theatre Morskie Oko. “Rex” was for Andrzej Włast the fulfillment of his long lasting dream of directing the real great music-hall stage, which would reflect the genres of similar music-halls in Europe, like Casino de Paris or the Wintergarten in Berlin. The first premieres grouped the cream of the cream of the Warsaw music and cabaret performers, including the former actors performing in Morskie Oko and Qui pro Quo (two leading Warsaw cabarets in the 1920s and early 1930s - both bankrupted during the Great Crisis or shortly thereafter).

Janusz Popławski was a popular Polish prewar crooner and Operetta tenor. His emotional & warm style of interpretation is still highly valued by today’s Polish collectors of prewar shellac recordings. Also, the Orchestra “Odeon” tango interpretations are usually on a very high artistic level (during the mid-late 1930s the Odeon dance band was led by the Odeon musical director Jerzy Gert or sometimes by Arcadi Flato - a fine bandleader from Berlin).
