Candita C. Gual, a Yuruba Priestess for thirty four years, first realized her connection to Spiritualism at the age of seven. She attributes her continued development as a Spiritualist to the insight given by Medium Channelers openly sharing their experiences.  She is a resident of New York City and holds a master's degree in Master of Education from Fordham University.

At the age of seven Candita Gual was introduced to the realm of spiritualism. She continued to seek more insight, and became acquainted with the writings of Allen Kardec. The depth of Mr. Kardec's belief, and his gift for sharing his discoveries profoundly affected her desire to learn more. Upon her initiation into the Yoruba way of life in 1978 she found herself surrounded by individuals whose participation in this community required a deeper understanding of Spiritualism and Spiritism.  In her experience, Collection of Selected Prayers by Allen Kardec is a valuable resource for working with the spirit world.  Although it is available in many languages, she and many others found the English translation to be confusing.  As such, she has attempted to produce a more comprehensive and user friendly version.   She holds a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education / Sociology from Keuka College, and a Masters in Organizational Management/Adult Education from Fordam University. Her career has taken her from elementary school teacher to organizational manager in defense of affirmative action rights. She is currently an administrator within the higher education system.

And the Shadows Wore Colors: Reflections of a Spiritualist strives to explain the difficulties that the members of the Yoruba / Lucumi community, specifically African Americans have experienced in incorporating the realm of the spirits into its ceremonies and teaditions. Throughout her life, Candita C. Gual has encountered many puzzling and troublesome paths. She has been fortunate to have the guidance of experienced mediums with foundations rooted in truth and logic, assuring safe footing for her as she has traveled the road of the unseen and commandeered rituals and solutions for the problems at hand. Yet she still has questions about what she has learned and what is to come in her continued search for knowledge. And the Shadows Wore Colors provides a record of her experiences and conversations that will reveal some answers for those who have questions. In this volume, she examines the stumbling blocks that hinder the spiritual evolution sought by so many people, to perhaps bring some direction and closure to them. She explains her perspective on some of the many facets of the world of spiritualism, divination, and initiation ceremonies based upon her thirty-four years of experience. And the Shadows Wore Colors is a work in progress that will hopefully open the door to m any discussions and books on this topic.

Allen Kardec believed that the ability to communicate with the spirit world was hindered because man did not know how to pray. This belief inspired him to write a collection of prayers accompanied by instructions for their appropriate use. Many worldwide have found these prayers to be an essential tool for communicating with spirits on a positive level.Mr. Kardec's original work was in French. As interest in Spiritualism grew so did the acceptance of his beliefs, which lead his works to be translated into other languages. My sole purpose in authoring this work was to create a more comprehensive English version of this highly effective tool in order for it to reach a broader audience.My hope is that this work will open for many more the gateway to true spiritual understanding.
