Luke Kelly I am not nor do I attempt to try to be... But his version is the inspiration. There are so many beautiful versions of this song out there that i am almost embarrassed to post this but this is all for fun any way. I simply love this song. I believe it is an old traditional "Night Visiting Song" of which there are many styles, but this is the only one that has this titile. I'm A Rover is very similar to some of the words but is a quite different tune. "Night Visiting Songs" are said to be songs in which a ghost of a loved one visits at night. The loved one usually lets them in, as they know they are dead, yet they feel or think they are dreaming. About this banjo, I came across this banjo through my brother. It is a used Alvarez banjo that was purchased from C.C. Richelieu in Oregon Wi. The head skin is signed by him which sort of dates the banjo (1985). I do have the original receipt. It is a very nice sounding instrument (really it is - 'specially in the hands of some one good) Any way, I hope you like this song. John
