Prosecutor: No charges for homeowner who fired shots at firefighters

NORTHSIDE, Ohio (WKRC) - Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced that charges will not be filed against a man who fired shots at Cincinnati firefighters.

Deters called the whole thing a "misunderstanding."

First responders arrived at the home of the Glenn Mullins, a 65-year-old Vietnam veteran, on Springdale Avenue for a wellness check Sunday morning just after 9 a.m.

When Mullins did not immediately respond, firefighters attempted to enter the Northside home by breaking a window near the front door.

Mullins fired two shots, later claiming he thought someone was trying to break into his house. No one was struck.

Prosecutor Deters released a statement saying:

“No criminal charges are appropriate in this case. The homeowner thought that someone was trying to break into this home and he fired 2 shots. No one was injured and the homeowner was completely cooperative with the police and firefighters and explained why he fired the shots. Everyone is satisfied that this was a misunderstanding. This man is a Vietnam veteran who served our country and he is also battling a serious illness. Looking at all of the facts and circumstances of this matter, it would not be appropriate to seek any criminal charges.”
