Can you fly a drone? Before I purchased my Bebop 2 I had little experience flying drones. I had bought toy drones before, but nothing as expensive or large as the Parrot Bebop 2. My previous drones were all indoor ones. I don't profess to be a drone expert and my skills at flying are far from expert level in the short period of time I've had mine. What I can tell you from my own experience, apart from the fact that my drone makes me look good at flying, is it is simpler than you may think using a semi-skilled drone (by that I mean GPS enabled, altitude hold) I don't have to think about maintaining height because the Bebop 2 has altitude hold. I don't have to worry about stability, as you can see from the shots in this video. The Bebop 2 takes care of that. What I can also tell you is that Parrot insist on making you pay for modes like Flight Plan and Follow Me which come free on most other drones around this price. Do you need those modes? Absolutely not! Use common sense when flying. Keep line of sight of your drone, particularly when the camera is not forward facing, and keep it at a sensible altitude. For your first few flights make sure there are no obstacles in your immediate area, such as overhanging tree branches, power lines, bushes. Take baby steps. One big word of advice - Don't go above 400ft (120m)! Really, there is no need. If you want to know what the view looks like from up there, use Google Maps because it's pretty much the same view. In most countries it is illegal to go above that height anyway. Would I recommend a Parrot Bebop 2 for first timers? Absolutely yes!! Why? It's relatively inexpensive. It's easy to fly. All parts, and I mean ALL parts, are replaceable (check the Parrot website or eBay). The quality is 1080p which on a sunny day can hold it's own to any DJI drone. The battery life is 25 minutes which allows plenty of flight time. Downsides to the Bebop 2? Yes, a few. It doesn't like dim days. Bright and sunny are it's best days. Barely any warning when the battery is low. And it goes down really quickly after 50%, just be aware of this! When it detects a low battery it will start to descend which is not the best if you are flying over water!! If it loses connection it goes to 20m and flies directly to it's take off point or the pilots point (as determined in the app), which if you are flying near tree's or other low level things, could be catastrophic. Parrot expect you to pay for Follow Me and Flight Plan modes. Not good. These are nice things to have, but not must haves. They are free on most other semi decent drones. Now, go fly.
