Vivien Crea was one of six recipients to receive the Texas Exes 2009 Distinguished Alumnus Award on October 9. This is her acceptance speech given at the event. Crea received her BA from The University of Texas at Austin in 1972. She lives in Washington, D.C. and is the former vice commandant and chief operating officer of the United States Coast Guard. Crea was the first woman to be second in charge of a military service.
