Criminal Justice on the Ballot 
As part of our California Election Watch 2014, we look at criminal justice on the ballot. Proposition 47 would downgrade some non-violent crimes, such as drug possession or small property thefts, from a felony to a misdemeanor. Thousands of state prisoners serving time for those crimes could ask to have their sentences reduced retroactively. Voters will also decide the attorney general's race between incumbent Kamala Harris and opponent Ron Gold, a Republican and former deputy attorney general.

Kairos 50
A San Francisco group has identified what they consider the best and brightest young minds in high-tech, and they're not creating dating apps. The Kairos Society is recognizing 50 young entrepreneurs under the age of 25 whose innovations can potentially change healthcare, education, and energy.

Livable Tiny Homes
The so-called "tiny home movement" is getting, well, bigger. And parts of California are becoming hubs for the very small dwellings, including Sonoma and Berkeley. Moving away from "McMansions" and living a down-sized life has its appeal to a growing number of people, including some urban planning experts who say it's a possible solution to the affordable housing crisis.
