Bus driver gives special passenger new wheels

When a bus driver learned someone had stolen a bike from a rider with special needs, she stepped in to help.

Lori Hiles was noticeably upset when she boarded a transit bus earlier this week in Washington.

The bus driver Sylvie Pelesasa asked Hiles, who has mobility issues and uses a bike to help her get around, where her vehicle was.

"She started crying, 'somebody took my bike. I can't understand why they would take my bike,'" said Pelasasa.

Pelasasa said after reflecting on the situation, she felt she needed to "step up and help."

"I'm driving (...) and I start crying because I'm upset. I know how it feels to be violated in that way. l've been stolen from, and for somebody that has challenges or special needs it's even more devastating, so I just told her 'don't worry, I will make sure you get a bike,'" said Pelesasa, who wrote a Facebook post explaining what happened that day.
