A tribute to my boy Banshee, who I love with all my heart.

Banshee was a chained dog, a purebred black lab who spent six years of his life at the end of a chain. During that time he had a collar embedded so deeply it nearly killed him, yet they continued to keep him out on a chain for life.

When I first rescued him, we got him into a lab rescue, but turned out they wouldn't keep him because he was a bit fond of growling at people. He ended up at my house, driving me insane with his separation anxiety—nearly killing himself because of it—and pushing me to write "Scream Like Banshee: 29 Days of Tips and Tales to Save your Sanity as a Doggie Foster Parent."

In the end I fell more in love with him that I would have imagined, and although he technically remained a foster dog for 2.5 years, there was no way we didn't think we were meant for each other.

Lung cancer killed him quickly in the end, but he will always be beloved by me, and always have a big piece of my heart. My Freight Train. I love you and Miss you.

All dogs deserve this. All dogs deserve to have someone who mourns their passing, not someone who could care less how the dog at the end of the chain died. Dogs Deserve Better will continue to work for these dogs. They certainly deserve better, and I'm so glad Banshee got better.
