I have had the honor of knowing exceptionally compassionate, loving people... and what has consistently impressed me has been the fact that they are kind and caring; not because their lives have consistently been easy and free from hardship, but despite terrible times of hardship, trauma, doubt and fear.

My grandmother, Neva, was one such shining example of this philosophy for me, and while some might say she was a product of her generation and therefore knew how to be kind to family, friends and strangers alike, I know better. I saw that even though Neva had suffered terrible losses and setbacks throughout her life, her most commonly stated affirmation was spoken with heartfelt wonder and love-filled eyes, "I am so very blessed." Neva rose above setbacks that others might have used as excuses for becoming bitter and withdrawn in quiet testimonial to a life dedicated to love. Never mind that one of her beloved sisters had been murdered... or that her husband's brain tumor took his life before he ever got to know his grandchildren. Neva knew she was blessed to have love for friends, family, angels and God... and she shared her joy with everyone she met.

Sometimes this has been a challenge for me, because my sun, Venus and Mars are all in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn's stern hand. From a very early age, I learned to stand up to the stern gaze of the Saturnian archetypal father and push back with thoughts such as: "There are no shoulds," "Doing my best is always good enough," and "We are all doing our very best." The very act of standing up to an inner, unseen force of Judgement provided me with the strength to take myself more lightly and savor every opportunity for joy, spontaneity, and inspiration... always remembering how blessed I am to feel such love.

We can gain strength, courage, hope and joy when remembering the love we've felt in our hearts. Cynthia Sue Larson of www.realityshifters.com talks about methods for overcoming times of inner doubt and judgment, and talks about the books The Mystery of 2012, Reality Creation 101, Live Your Bliss, and Transforming Trauma.
