When 9-year-old Cee Cee Creech of Campbellsville she saw May 2011 television reports about the deadly tornado in Joplin, Missouri, she knew she had to do something to help. A knitter since age 4, Cee Cee decided to use her skills to craft small elephant toys for the children. With help from her mother, Belinda, they started a fundraiser called "Elephants Remember Joplin." They created a Facebook page, raising over $3,000 for the American Red Cross. An auction of her elephants raised hundreds of dollars for a Missouri home-building charity. Her project has inspired others to join her in knitting for Joplin. Her high-profile supporters include Ty Pennington of Extreme Makeover, as well as celebrities in the knitting world and the media in Missouri.
