Elissa Yancey, MSEd, is an Educator Associate Professor of Journalism at the
University of Cincinnati as well as Managing Editor of Soapbomedia.com, a weekly
online magazine focused on "what's next" for the region. Nothing fascinates her
more than a good story, well told. Nothing excites her more than the expanding
storytelling opportunities that technology allows. With more than 20 years of
reporting and teaching experience, she regularly works with diverse cultures in a
wide range of Service Learning courses for Journalism students. For her efforts, she
received UC's Just Community Award in 2011, the same year that she received the
College of Arts & Sciences Edith Alexander Award for Excellence in Teaching. She
regularly leads workshops in course development, use of technology and Service
Learning at UC's Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
