For 28 years,Germany's internal border divided the Federal Republic from the GDR. The full extent of this inhumane structure was only apparent in late 1989,when GDR citizens were at last allowed to pass through it. Today,20 years on,many of the wounds inflicted by the former border have yet to heal.
