Patrick Schwerdtfeger discusses the number of connections you have on LinkedIn and the arguments in favor (and against) getting widely connected. The primary argument is that you risk less on LinkedIn as compared with Facebook. There are fewer photos and everything is very professional. Also, having a large number of connections offers some social proof of being well connected.

This video was recorded on August 15, 2009 in Berkeley, CA. It was part of a full-day workshop entitled Social Media Victories Real Businesses, Real Campaigns, Real Results which focused on how entrepreneurs, small business owners and self-employed service professionals can leverage Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube to grow their businesses.

Patrick is the author of Webify Your Business Internet Marketing Secrets for the Self-Employed (2009) as well as Make Yourself Useful Marketing in the 21st Century (2008). You can purchase the latest book on Amazon but you can also get it for free at the following website.

By subscribing, you will receive one chapter via email each week for a year. You should know that the book also includes 6 chapters that are not in the email course and the book also has a step-by-step action guide at the end of each chapter. The email course does not have those itemized to-do lists.

This video is about leveraging the power of LinkedIn for business by accumulating a large number of connections. Although it can reduce the relevance of your network, it can also help you gain more connections in the future and creates an image of being well connected along the way. In addition, you risk less by getting heavily connected on LinkedIn because there isn't nearly as much personal information as their is on Facebook.
