EINSTEIN LECTURES DATE :24 April 2018, 17:00 to 19:00 VENUE:Infosys Campus, Electronic City, Bengaluru Hawking's life story - of a brilliant mind trapped in a failing body and yet able to transcend these limitations to do creative work of the highest order on some of the most fundamental questions asked by mankind - is a genuinely inspirational one. In this talk, I will try to give a glimpse of the pathbreaking discoveries made by Hawking on black holes and on the physics of the early universe. I will also place his scientific legacy in the broader context of contemporary developments in string theory which shows the lasting and far-reaching impact of his work. This is an invite only event, If you want to host an Einstein Lecture at your Institute, please write to [email protected] Table of Contents (powered by https://videoken.com) 0:00:00 Introduction 0:02:51 Infosys Campus, 24th Apr. 2018 0:02:55 Stephen Hawking's Legacy in Fundamental Physics 0:04:42 Stephen Hawking (1942-2018) 0:07:54 The Quest of Fundamental Physics 0:10:20 Gravity 0:13:58 Gravity is Geometry 0:16:24 Einsteinian Gravity 0:17:39 Gravity and Geometry 0:18:45 Why do we need Einstein's Theory? 0:23:00 The Macrocosms 0:24:16 Black Holes 0:28:36 Why Black Holes Are So Important 0:33:10 Black Holes and Thermodynamics 0:38:20 Only an Analogy? 0:40:05 Quantum Reality 0:42:40 The Microcosmos 0:43:43 Quantum Mechanics meets Gravity 0:47:06 Why We Need Quantum Gravity 0:51:00 String Theory and Hawking 0:53:03 Who cares about Quantum Gravity? 0:55:10 India and String Theory 0:56:38 Hawking in India (2001) 1:01:09 Q&A
