US Charges Afghan Immigrant in Bomb Plot

The United States is charging a young immigrant from Afghanistan with plotting to use 'weapons of mass destruction' - powerful home-made bombs - against targets in New York City. Stepped-up security patrols are protecting transit systems, hotels and other possible targets, and authorities say they do not think an attack is imminent. However, investigators are still hunting for other members of the alleged plot, which apparently was nearing completion earlier this month (before the anniversary of al-Qaida's devastating September 11th attacks on New York and Washington eight years ago).
