It's very common for babies to have reflux, or in other words there's a flap over the stomach that sometimes opens when it's not supposed to. It's supposed to stay shut and keep stomach contents down. In babies sometimes it hasn't fully developed or it doesn't work right and so the stomach contents come back up when they shouldn't. The chance of this happening can be increased when a baby overeats. You had specific questions about when to cut your daughter off or if you should just keep feeding her during a nursing session. It seems like she cries a lot and she's hungry and you're just wondering what the problem is. The best thing to do would be to take her to the doctor because they can ask you more specific questions about her behavior, they can check her growth and make sure that she's growing and not having more out than what's staying in, and based on that give you the best recommendation. If she truly has reflux sometimes medication is indicated to help prevent that that from happening especially if it's making it so she's not able to gain weight because she's vomiting so much. It would be good though, to help prevent overfeeding to stop halfway, burp her, and if she continues to cry and continues to root and act like she's hungry then nurse her on the other side. Feed on one side and then nurse her on the other after you've burped her. After the second side, burp her well again. There are a couple of other things you can do to help minimize the chances that she'll spit up or throw up again. Try to not put her down flat on her back for about 20-30 minutes after eating. Keep her upright either by holding her or putting her in a car seat or swing or bouncer or something. Also avoid putting her in tight fitting clothes. Sometimes the little elastic waistband on clothes increases the pressure in their abdomen and they vomit because of that. Tummy time is great. It's really good to do that two to three times a day for about three to five minutes. But avoid doing it after eating periods because if you lay her down on her tummy right after eating she'll probably just throw up. Time it maybe before the next feeding when her stomach has been empty for a little while. Again, the best thing to do would be to take her to the doctor and they can give you the best advice after checking her out and asking you more questions. If you have any other questions for me though feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.
