This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. We must colonize other areas of the solar system to insure the continuation of the human race. Shane DiGiovanna, age 16, has a rare, incurable, fragile skin condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa. He is also profoundly deaf, but hears with the aid of bilateral cochlear implants. He is on the Patient Advisory Council at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and is a spokesperson for the EB Research Partnership. Shane has been passionate about space his whole life. He has experienced zero gravity on a Zero-G flight and been in the clean room at JPL during the construction of the Mars Rover Curiosity. Shane's goal is to design the space crafts of the future to explore the solar system.
