Winter gives a respite from the heat but unfortunately also means shorter days. As the 12704 Falaknuma Express approaches Palasa, the sun peeps out of the horizon, spreading golden rays through the Andhra countryside and heralding the coming of a new day. In this video, our Santragachhi WAP4 accelerates with the 24 coaches of the Falaknuma Express through a number of curves outside Palasa as the sun rises in the sky. Soon we are touching a 100 kmph and blasting through the minute stations of Summadevi and Mandasa Road in the northern tip of Andhra Pradesh, honking liberally in the process. The video concludes with us nearly hitting top speed of 110 kmph through Sompeta, the largest station between Palasa and Ichhapuram. We covered the 31 kilometres between Palasa and Sompeta in 21 minutes at an average speed little under 90 kmph!
