Centerville Police to Crack Down on Drivers Wi

CENTERVILLE -- The Centerville Police Department is cracking down on drivers flying past stopped school buses. 

Public Information Officer John Davis said the department has received eight complaints from bus drivers recently, "it doesn't sound like a lot, but, for an area we might get one a month. So, to get eight in a series of three to four weeks, that caught our attention."

Davis said an officer caught three drivers on Tuesday flying past a bus on Far Hills Avenue near the Alex Bell Road intersection. 

Dash cam video shows an officer counting two drivers passing the stopped bus, followed by the bus driver honking repeatedly at the offenders. 

The fine for driving past a stopped bus can be up to $500.00. 

We talked to a mother of the kids who were getting on that bus, she says it happens too often, "I shouldn't have to worry about my kids getting on or off the bus," said Lyndsey Rollison. 

Rollison has six-year-old twins that get on the bus around the lunch time hour. 

On Wednesday, officers staked out near the bus stop on Far Hills Avenue and one on Franklin Street near the high school. 

"It makes me feel like my community is coming together for me and supporting the kids," said Rollison.
