Genome Scientist - Professor of Genetics at the Udine University, Scientific Director of the Institute for Applied Genomics, a private research and non-profit organization that he helped to found in 2006, where Next Generation Sequencing technologies are used for the analysis of plant genomes. The scope of his research is the understanding of the functional significance of DNA sequence changes and, more generally, of identifying genes that control characters of agronomic interest in order to improve the cultivated plants. His research group has completed the sequencing of the grapevine genome and more recently those of peach, lemon, barley and fir. He received the 2005 Prize for the Physical and Natural Sciences by the Academy of Sciences and, since 2007, is member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, Class of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
