FRANKFORT, Ky. (Joe Webb) -- With just a few days left to campaign and sitting on a small lead in the polls, Democratic nominee Jack Conway rallied the faithful at party headquarters in Frankfort. Conway has served two terms as Kentucky's attorney general. In 2010, he lost a U.S. Senate race to Rand Paul. Candidate Conway said Governor Conway will pay close attention to northern Kentucky. He's formed a northern Kentucky steering committee to focus exclusively on northern Kentucky issues. With Edgewood's Patrick Hughes running Kentucky's Democratic Party, there is a local voice in his ear. Conway had clear answers on key local issues. First, heroin, "As Governor, I'm going to remain focused on getting more treatment beds and trying to educate and treat our way to a better place in dealing with heroin," said Conway. He said the Brent Spence Bridge was a high priority and he's not committed to tolls, "The political community in Northern Kentucky has made it clear they are not ready for tolls. So we'll have to get some consensus up there on how we finance this. I think the federal planning money needs to come first." He's also pushing for more early childhood education, increased workforce development and keeping Kentucky's health insurance exchange, Kynect, intact. He's not campaigned heavily in heavily-Republican northern Kentucky, but said he's committed to the region. "I want the people of northern Kentucky to know that is an incredibly important region of the state. A vibrant region of the state and I want to do all I can to help it grow," Conway said. Conway is from Louisville. He is a St. Xavier High School and Duke University graduate. Follow Joe Webb on Twitter @joewebbwkrc, and LIKE him on Facebook.
