The Negotiable Instrument (Amendment) Bill, 2018 insert two provisions Section 143 A and Section 148 in the act to provide relief to payees of dishonor cheques and to discourage unnecessary litigation to save money and time. Amendment provides interim compensation to the complainant under certain circumstances.The interim compensation will not exceed 20% of cheque amount which will be paid within 60 days of a court order. Bill also empowering the appellate court to direct deposit of a minimum of 20% of the cheque amount in appeal by the drawer against conviction, within the period of sixty days.
