I am advocating for every public school to switch to using open source solutions over commercially based solutions. I'll explain the basics of open source and provide examples that everyone can recognize. And, I will not mention any commercial products by name in my presentation, but the implication will be clear that schools can save millions of dollars by switching to tools like Open Office with relative ease. And, while my main focus will be on public schools, I plan to explain how and why local governments, small businesses, and individuals should be making this shift as well.
