A Belgian couple - a 34-year old man and his 31-year old wife - on Friday was hit by an avalanche while skiing on an official ski-path near the Austrian village of Rauris. The couple was taken to hospital in Zell am See by helicopter. The man was suffered cuts in his face while the woman had breast injuries. Both were not critically injured. The avalanche struck the couple around 1245 CET on a ski path connecting the Heimalm and the Kreuzboden ski slopes. The director of the Rauris Hochalmbahn ski resort said the avalanche could not have been prevented. This footage of the rescue helicopters in action was filmed by EUXTV director Ray Frenken, who skied over the same ski-path with his family only a few minutes before the avalanche struck. The search and rescue mission included four helicopters and a crew of some 50 people, comprised of mountain rescuers, firemen, red cross workers, police officers and six mountain dogs.
