Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education have partnered with Comercial Internacional Exportada S.A., or CISA, a green coffee exporter, to introduce laptop computers and a technology-based curriculum to a rural community school for the children of coffee-farm workers in Nicaragua. This three-year research initiative at the Buenos Aires School has reached its second phase. The project will document how introducing a technology-based curriculum impacts the school environment, student learning, approaches to teaching and school and family and community dynamics. Researchers Dr. Sharon Ravitch, a faculty member at Penn GSE and Matthew Tarditi, a researcher who spent one year living on the coffee-farm in Nicaragua, discuss planting "Digital Seeds."
