Yamaha is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a family-oriented roadshow being taken around the country. The truck has set out across the nation to inform customers of the unique benefits of the tuning fork brand by telling our story of innovation over the last 60 years. The first event took place at Chris Watson Motorcycles in Cessnock, which featured the 60th anniversary display truck plus a range of vintage models including the first YZ - a YZ250 owned and ridden by Stephen Gall back in 1974, the first monoshock machine (YZ250) and the first dual purpose motorcycle (DT1). I’m here with Sean Goldhawk from Yamaha. He’s going to tell us all about the travelling roadshow - what you can see when it comes to your town. Thanks Nigel, yeah we’re 60 this year and to celebrate, we’ve built a big truck over here. It’s a travelling display full of vintage bikes. We’ve got some legends over here, you can see signing posters. We’ve got Craig Dack, we’ve got Geoff Ballard, we got umm Stephen Gall, Dan Reardon, Yamaha factory riders. Everyone from Yamaha signing posters and so forth. We’re here to spruik the 60 years of Yamaha’s history of innovation and we’re very proud of it and we’re telling our story so happy birthday to the ‘tuning forks’. So the travelling roadshow is starting out at Chris Watson Motorcycles, now Chris is a legend of Australian motorcycle racing, having won numerous Australian titles and then many years ago he set up his own bike shop here in Cessnock in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. So Chris, you must be pretty happy that Yamaha chose to have the roadshow at your dealership first? Probably overwhelmed is a better word. Still chuffed about it. It’s a great privilege. 23 years as a Yamaha dealer and to launch the roadshow at our dealership is a great honour. A lot of people have turned out today and it couldn’t have been a better day. The shop’s looking absolutely fantastic and of course you’ve got heaps of tents set up and lots of lots of motorcycles. I can’t imagine how much work it was to get ready for this. It’s a lot of work but it’s a lot of good friends, a lot of good workers and a lot of good staff and it all falls together. 22-years ago we started as a very small store with 80 bikes a year and now we’re at 1500 bikes a year. 18 staff at this shop and three other shops as well. So, the vibe behind the new bikes, yesterday Yamaha had the journalist launch of the YZ450. You’ll have those by time anyone see’s this, you’ll have those in stock and you’ll have lots of other new bikes. So what’s exciting about Yamaha for you now? Yamaha is a very progressive and innovative company. There’s always something new. 16 models have improved from last year. They’re always coming out with something new and exciting and people like to have something outside the square these days. I hope you have a great day and I hope this helps your business along.
