US officials face the challenge of coordinating many levels of government in an emergency, whether a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Officials from all levels of government are addressing the challenge at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security. Each year, the school graduates roughly 120 students. Another 30,000 homeland security professionals access education and resources via the center's Web site. Mike O'Sullivan paid a visit to the center, at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
