Supermarkets look set to drastically reduced the prices of the most popular seasonal beverages in the run up to the festive period with some brands dropping to as little as 71p a can (pictured). Tesco is selling a multi-pack of 18 440ml cans of Carling lager for just £11 - equal to just 79p a pint. British pubs are said to be closing at a rate of 29 a week in the battle to compete with retail giants slashing alcohol prices. The average price of a standard pint of beer in a pub is £3.26, but in some areas it is higher, such as London which is as much as £5.19 and the South East where it is £4.08.
