One of the themes that we've hit on throughout the years on Ring of Fire is the fact that the mainstream traditional media is dead. News reporting has been replaced with sensationalized stories of kidnappings and celebrity infotainment. But through all of that, there were still a few outlets where you could find real news reporting and investigative journalism. Unfortunately, this dismal economy that the Republicans left us with is threatening to bring the era of American newspapers to an end, as these massive publishing powerhouses are forced to cut their staffs and shut their doors. Mike Papantonio talks about the decline of the American newspapers with author and Washington Correspondent for The Nation magazine, John Nichols.
