In my final Kerdi- Membrane cut and fold corner test, I have conclusive evidence that modified thinset works better at sealing kerdi membrane. I still recommend using pre-formed corners, but when needed, a cut and fold corner-- with kerdi fix applied applied with a 1" overlap, will work.
