Dave - Why do I conduct so much electricity?

I was testing for leak to ground on this Suzuki SV650 by putting my multimeter inbetween the batter terminal and the battery lead. With just the probes touching there's about 0.3V registering. With my friend touching the probe's metal, there's about 0.7V, with me there's about 6V. Why would that be?
