Following University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, Alan began his professional career at the Disney Sunday Movie department; reading hundreds of feature spec scripts and writing reviews for the executives at Disney.

What followed was a decades-long, successful career as a television writer and producer. Perhaps best known for co-creating the television version of Weird Science, for which he co-wrote the pilot and numerous episodes, directed two episodes, and served as co-executive producer.

His other most notable screenwriting and producing work includes the series Parker Lewis Can't Lose, co-executive producing Veronica's Closet, and consulting producer for both Dawson's Creek and Get Real. He has written episodes of the series She Spies, Players, Star Trek: Enterprise and Desperate Housewives.

Although he and his family recently left the Los Angeles area for the more relaxed Orange County environment, Mr. Cross continues writing and coaching new writers as they begin their own professional journeys.
