Haiti Earthquake: Heavy rains falling on the capitol are creating mud and landslides

United Nations, New York, 11 February 2010 - Commenting on death toll of United Nations (UN) staff members from last months earthquake, the chief of peacekeeping operations said today that the UN mission in Haiti had been, decapitated. Speaking to journalists at headquarters in New York, Alain Le Roy said that the latest casualty figures were 94 dead. The acting special representative of MINUSTAH (the UN mission in Haiti) Edmond Mulet who spoke via video conference from Haiti, said the issue of security was under control, adding there were some, minor isolated incidents, but that in general the population had been behaving in a very, dignified way. On Wednesday, heavy rains began falling in the capital. Mulet said that the effects of the rain were seen in the streets in the form of mud and landslides.
