On Apr. 6, 2010, ARRI introduced ALEXA at the Directors Guild Theater in Los Angeles and the camera system's groundbreaking ability to offer native recording of ProRes compressed HD images onto high performance SxS cards, providing instant access, viewing and editing of images in Apple's Final Cut Pro. To kick off this feature, an ALEXA shot live at the event interviewing Bill Bennett, ASC and Sam Nicholson, ASC who were the first filmmakers to use the camera. Fotokem's Tom Vice talked about the post facility's thoughts working with ALEXA while DP Haskell Wexler, ASC, Paramount's Garrett Smith and rental house owners Denny Clairmont and Otto Nemenz also chimed in their opinions.

The last shot was "in the can" by 6:55 p.m. The SxS card was slotted into a Mac desktop computer for immediate editing. No ingestion or transcoding step was required. By 7:30 p.m. a finished piece of interviews with sync sound and music was screened for the audience of over 600 guests.
