Social is drawing closer to the one behind the horrible goings on in London but each step he goes towards the truth is another further into peril. Already the places he ventures to are fraught with danger and monsters that defy explanation, all of them guarding the true power behind all that has occurred. If London is to be saved from the shadows of the night destroying it then Social’s journey can not and must not end here. He must journey further, stop each of the vampire’s minions and eventually, come face-to-face with the count himself.

Will Social prevail or will he fall like so many before him? More importantly, will any of the plot previously in the manual alone be explained? Go give it a read if you have a minute, it sheds a lot of light on what’s going on that the game hasn’t made a bit of effort to reveal yet.

Master of Darkness isn’t Castlevania but it’s a good effort at emulating the successful formula of the already established series. Its gameplay is familiar to those who’ve already played the series it’s inspired by while adding enough things of its own to keep you interested. It’s a beautiful game for the hardware that it’s on and the music and aesthetic does a grand job of pulling you into the setting and getting you invested. There are only so many enemies in the game and they started to repeat quite quickly, but there were always a few more added in each level to keep it interesting. The platforming itself isn’t too taxing and the difficulty is a steady curve which only has a few sudden spikes, mainly the second boss and that final level. Most of the bosses are rather easy and the less said about the final one, the better, but all in all the game has impressed me quite a bit and most importantly, it’s fun. Master of Darkness is a short but enjoyable game that I’m very glad I got around to completing and I encourage anyone who’s a fan of this type of platformer to give it a go yourself.

So what’s next? The last few games have been ones that I’ve had only a little experience with. There are far more games that I’ve played a bit and never completed compared to the ones I’ve seen to the end and in my youth, there were many uncompleted games in my collection. There still are in fact and many of them have remained from my youth, older games that I picked up on a whim that, for one reason or another, I never got very far in. Some I got stuck on while others turned out to be not that enjoyable, bought before I had ready access to the internet to see if something was decent. It’s the former that I want to slowly return to, to give those a games the chance they didn’t have many years ago and I have one such game in mind, one that I wondered if I’d ever get working again but now have.

See you next let’s play!
