Local woman needs help with cost of kidney transplant

While it's true that major surgery is covered by the province of Ontario, the costs associated with recovery time after an organ transplant are not covered by Canadian Pension Plan disability benefits. This is especially hard for Northerners who travel south for major medical care. Claudette Jones is a Sudburian who can't be sure she can afford the kidney transplant she so desperately needs. She'll need accomodation and someone to accompany her, as she is 50 percent blind and has also had one foot amputated. City Councillor Gerry Montpellier and Bob Johnston of 'Cruisin' for Organs' have arranged an emergency fundraiser for Sunday, March 25 and are appealing to local business to donate goods for auction, and to the greater community to attend.
