Waynesville Couple Killed in Head-on Collision, Charges Pending

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The NC Highway Patrol says two people are dead after a wreck on Smokey Park Highway on Monday night. Buncombe County dispatchers say the head-on collision happened just before 9 p.m. in front of the Bojangles on the 1500 block of Smokey Park Highway. The Highway Patrol says a Chevy pickup truck pulled into the path of an antique Ford pick-up driven by 84-year-old Davie McClure. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Davie's wife, Mattie, died later at the hospital. The other pickup truck was driven by 21-year-old Kalyn Taylor. Her 3-year-old daughter was also in the truck. They were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries and have since been released.
