Short biography:

 Shaykh Ashraf is Hafiz of the Qur'an and has completed his Islamic Studies (Alamiyyah) in the traditional Islamic educational institute in Bury (Lancs). He then went on to further his studies at the world-renowned al-Azhar University following which he completed his Masters and Phd Degrees in Islamic Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Shaykh Ashraf's doctoral thesis is entitled Al-Jami fi al-Hadith of Abd Allah b. Wahb al-Misri, with a historical, literary and methodological introduction.
For seven years (1996-2003) Dr Ashraf Makadam lectured at the University of Birmingham where his teaching specialties were Classical Arabic Literature, Qur'anic and Hadith Studies, and Islamic Commercial and Personal Law. He is also active in organising conferences and delivering lectures at various institutes of education.

In May 2006 he submitted a comprehensive report to the DfES entitled A Survey of Independent Muslim Schools-with Reference to Government Funding.

He is currently a Trustee of the LIA Trust, Founding member, Governor and Director of Madani Schools Federation, Leicester.
