The film captures the plight of rural Indian communities trapped in poverty and hunger—the largest number in the world today! It highlights the struggles of the poor Sahariya tribe in Madhya Pradesh fighting for its right to food and right to work. It also exposes a corrupt and decaying public distribution system that largely siphons off food grains to the black market before they can reach to hungry villagers. The film also brings out islands of hope. Poor villagers in Maharashtra are no longer dependent on food doles from the government. They are running their own grain banks to ward off hunger. Shot in the villages of Baran in Rajasthan, Shivpuri and Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh and Raigarh in Maharashtra.
