DATE/TIME: 11/2/2018 8:24pm CITY: Chula Vista/San Diego LOCATION: Northbound I-805, North of Palm Ave. INCIDENT DETAILS: A big rig fire halted traffic on northbound Interstate 805 in the South Bay Friday night as fire crews worked for hours to fully contain the flames and clear debris. The truck pulled to the side of the freeway between Main St. & Palm Ave. California Highway Patrol shut down all lanes as firefighters battled the flames. Drivers were backed up to State Route 905 until two lanes re-opened to a trickle of traffic at about 10 p.m. Crews worked through thick smoke to remove tightly packed pallets of corn and a fork lift from inside the truck's trailer. Flames kicked back up around 10:30 p.m. and could be seen leaping from the top of the trailer. Firefighters were still dousing the big rig with water late into Friday night.
