Fifteen thousand people worked for Orwo in the GDR era. The companys camera films were sold in 43 countries. Ownership changed hands several times after reunification. The last,PixelNet,almost pulled what was left of the Orwo plant with it into bankruptcy. 2003 saw a change in fortunes,with 21 million DM invested in new technology,with a focus on digital photography.
