In all my years of TF2, I've always wanted to do a 100 crate unbox jamboree.  Maybe get some amazing unusual or something!  However I never gave in because it's not worth it.  You have less than 1% chance per crate to unbox and unusual.  Even then, you might end up with a terrible hat with a terrible effect!  So nope, never not worth it.

But then came crate 87, the End of the Line crates.

First of all, I enjoy supporting community projects.  But also - if you unbox an unusual from one of those crates it will only be one of four effects - Frostbite, Molten Mallard, Death By Dusk, and Morning Glory.  I really like all four of these effects.  Even though I wouldn't be able to unbox something godly like a Burning Killer Exclusive I knew I would at least get an effect I would be happy with.

And really, that's what I was hoping for - have some fun doing something very few can do and maybe get something fun out of it.  It wasn't done to get rich, but get something surprising!

When you get right down to it, I wasn't really surprised though.  One hundred crates and not a single unusual.  I only got a few strange cosmetic items as well, and they weren't even the ones I really liked.  Obviously it would have been a far better idea to have done what I always do - buy pure then get the hats I wanted.

Do I regret it?  In some ways I do, as it ended up being a massive waste of money.  I also could have used that money to get me something like a new Yellow Belt to make new videos and what not.  But on the other hand if I look at the big picture, it's not so bad.  If we take into account all the previous crate 87s I've opened that would mean I got one unusual out of 122 crates.  That's actually pretty good!  I just wish the extra one hundred after that first unusual unbox would have yielded a second one but oh well.

Yet at the very least it can be a friendly reminder to everyone that it's not worth it to unbox crates.  Thousands are opened every day and only a few are lucky to get anything at all.  I even have one friend who's last five unboxes have been terrible effects+hats and another who hasn't gotten anything in over 370 keys.

So if there's anything you can take away from this, is that you should just enjoy what you have.  If there's something you want, save up for it and have patience.
