3D indoor maps are computer representations of real human spaces that are captured using a new type of camera. Soon these new depth cameras will be embedded in common devices such as smart phones and laptops, giving millions of people the ability to capture 3D indoor maps, share them, and revisit them later in 3D simulations. This technology will also give robots, smart phones, and augmented reality glasses the ability to locate themselves precisely in an indoor environment and aid humans in a new way. Christian is a programmer who loves using distributed computing to solve hard problems. He has applied his skill set to fields such as computer vision, bioinformatics, and computer security. In 2013, he co-founded Paracosm, a Gainesville-based startup, where he programs algorithms that analyze handheld video and generate accurate 3D models of the world. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) Music "cafe connection" by morgantj featuring Morusque Available at ccMixter.org http://ccmixter.org/files/morgantj/18947 Under CC BY license http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
