How does a tarot reader operate?

The job of the reader is all about working out how to interact with the client. One has to work out with great skill what variety of service the client is buying on that day. Is it entertainment? Is it therapy? Do they want some corroboration of something that they believe in and if you were to corroborate what they believe in would it be good for them?

A good telephone sales person has to think on their toes, but a telephone sales person knows what product the client maybe interested in. A good tarot reader has no idea what type of service the client wants. Sure, there are some potential clieche that manifest from time to time,but the human component and the variety of real life stops the reader from being able to say with any fixed, rigid or mechanical certainty precisely what that might be. Just like a skilled sales person the reader has to ascertain from the tone of voice of the client, phraseology, buzz words and all the rest precisely where the client is coming from. Also there are certain types of client that it is actually morally wrong to deal with commercially and as such the reader needs to learn how to drive them away for their own good, and to do so ideally as politely as is possible (which in some obsessive cases, is not as easy as it sounds!).

Remember that a commercial tarot reading can and should be treated as an entertainment service with the therapeutic benefit that comes from a conversation and not much more. Tarot readers are the unofficial counselors of today, but just as the orthodox counselors of today can't help all clients and in some cases might make the pathology of certain customers worse, the reader needs to know what he or she is doing and needs to make sure that they are acting ethically and are not feeding off the weak.

Also we must be sensitive to peoples theological stances, even though we might not share them. For instance, I do not believe in aliens, but if my client does, I might have to explain my down to earth message with the help of some well researched information from the Pleiadean religion. I also don't believe in fate or karma (to tell you the truth I am not sure if I have any beliefs), but if my client believes in karma I might have to use the concept of karma in my explanations.

It can be a very knowledge based entertainment service.
