United Nations, New York, July 2009 - Students participating in the first Global Model United Nations set to take place from 5 to 7 August, 2009 in Geneva have been invited to submit a short video highlighting the progress being made in their country, or globally, on one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
 
Students were asked to identify an MDG; outline the steps that have already been taken to meet the 2015 target; identify what more needs to be done; and outline their own plan of action to make sure the target is reached. 
 
The theme of this year's GMUN will be The Millennium Development Goals: Lifting the Bottom Billion out of Poverty. More than 1,000 university-level students, ages 18 to 24 - from Member States where Model United Nations programmes are currently being organized - have been invited to participate in Geneva.

Youth represent a top priority for the United Nations and a new generation of support. An estimated one million students, from primary school to university, participate worldwide in Model United Nations simulations each year. Many of today's leaders in law, government, business and the arts participated in Model UN programmes during their youth.
