Hope Village moves to SEIU property

Hope Village, an unsanctioned tent encampment that began after a loose coalition of activists were frustrated with what they saw as an inadequate response to the area’s homelessness crisis was told to move the camp from state land next to the Employment Development Department. The EDD asked the California Highway Patrol, which is in charge of enforcement activities on state land, to remove the encampment, and the CHP gave residents until midday Monday to leave. The SEIU Local 1877 agreed to temporarily host the encampment for the next week while the search for a more permanent location continues.
