TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. -- Sandy Blythe, the wife of Tim Grant who was brought dead to a regional hospital early last month has confessed to his murder, investigators say.

According to Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney, Blythe, 63, turned herself into detectives at around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Blythe took her husband to Transylvania Regional Hospital on Dec. 5 with the 55-year-old's body in the passenger seat.

She originally said the couple met two men at the Sandy Bottoms pull-off in Buncombe County and, during a scuffle, Grant was shot by Blythe.

Blythe has now confessed, investigators said, to killing her husband after an argument around midday Dec. 5 in the Little River area of Transylvania County.

"The two had been arguing for a period of time, " Sheriff David Mahoney said. "As a result of that argument she admitted shooting him."

News 13 sat down with Blythe Dec. 18 where she said she shot her husband by accident. Blythe waited hours to take Grant to the hospital after he was shot.

According to warrants, Blythe told investigators after the shooting she drove to her house, washed dishes and smoked cigarettes.

She explained in our interview why she waited.

"I knew he was dead," Blythe said. "I just didn't want to have to let go of him. I knew he was gone."

Sheriff Mahoney said Blythe, who was booked on murder charges around 2:15 p.m., showed remorse during her taped confession.

"I think it's fair to say she came in with a heavy heart," Sheriff Mahoney said. "She provided what I believe to be an accurate accounting of the events of that day."

Sheriff Mahoney said Blythe said she shot her husband outside of the car on rural Cascade Lake Road about six miles from her house where she lived in Tim Grant.

The couple was married for ten years, family told News 13.

Tammy Grant, Tim Grant's daughter, released a statement to News 13 after hearing the news her stepmother had been arrested for her father's murder.

"We are so happy and grateful that Sandy will pay for what she did to our dad. Tears have been falling with happiness since I heard the news," the statement read. "She deserves to pay dearly here on earth, and again when she gets to the gates of heaven by the true judge."

The Transylvania County Sheriff's Office, Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, Brevard Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation worked together on this investigation.

Blythe is being held in the Transylvania County Detention Center under no bond.
